Langer/Dickie presents as its inaugural exhibition, a hybrid two-person show and collaborative installation by Chicago-based artists Jason Dunda and Erin Washington. The two artists come together to transform the gallery space into one of tangential thinking, humor, and improvisation.  In addition to selections from their individual studio practices, Dunda and Washington will present collaborative works that draw connections between disparate images and materials from the history of art, design, and popular culture. Erin Washington is a Painter, Drawer, and Installation artist currently living and working in Chicago. Using fugitive and symbolic materials (ex. ashes, blackberries, bones, chalk, moss, and spaceblankets), Washington’s works source imagery from the Sciences, Mythology, and Art History that represent ruptures and failures in the search for meaning and truth. Erin is currently a lecturer in the Painting and Drawing Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her MFA in 2011. Notable solo exhibitions have been held at such venues as Illinois State University, The Riverside Art Center, Riverside Illinois and Zolla/Lieberman Gallery.  Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at such spaces as Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago; Julius Caesar, Chicago; and Columbia University in New York. Washington's upcoming exhibition at Cleve Carney Art Gallery at the College of DuPage is scheduled for Fall 2020.

Jason Dunda is a Chicago-based Canadian painter. He is currently working on a project entitled “Various Incidents” in which he translates imagery of authority and control into portraitive abstractions. Recent projects include “A Hall of Unflattering Portraits,” a solo exhibition at the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, Ontario; “Orange” at Slow in Chicago; “Shared Neuroses” at boundary in Chicago. International exhibits include the Heine-Onstad Art Centre in Oslo, and the Kuwait Art Foundation in Kuwait City. His work is represented in the collections of Todd Oldham, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and the Doris McCarthy Gallery at the University of Toronto. Recent residencies include the Corporation of Yaddo, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, the SÍM Residency in Reykjavik, Iceland, and a four-month research and production residency in Paris sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts.  Dunda will open solo projects at flxst and Sidecar in 2019 and 2020. Jason Dunda’s cultural practice is led by a sense of dry wit and satire with an affinity to craft. He considers the undercurrent of polite dissent in his work to be indicative of the Canadian mindset.
